America, 1960s: at a time when everything is changing, the United States races to conquer space and the highest peaks on the planet, while marches for black rights inflame public opinion. It is a day filled with promise, Sunday, March 21, 1965, when the first American to climb Everest and the country's most famous senator meet to tackle a still-pristine peak in the Yukon, recently named for President John Fitzgerald Kennedy who was assassinated two years earlier. Jim Whittaker prefers the roughness of rock to the sophistication of politics. For Bob Kennedy, however, politics is a vital mission-he could not abandon it even when his brother was taken from him. The mountaineer and the senator. Two seemingly opposite worlds meet. Amidst blizzards and ice walls, Bob experiences his grief and finds his way back, while Jim will be hit with an unexpected civil call. A friendship will be born that will go over the top and animate Bob's memorable 1968 primary election bid. With his tragic end, the senator will bequeath the dream of "a newer world" to which Jim, in his own way, will try to stay true.
