Advanced Ski Mountaineering Course
PROGRAM
Proposal aimed at those who already have the basics of classic ski mountaineering, and who want to develop additional skills regarding steep skiing (ascent and descent technique), rope maneuvers on snowy terrain, progression with rappelling rope, progression on snow with crampons and ice axe, belays on snow and emergency situations.
- Required medium/good skiing level, daily elevation gain capacity of at least 1200 mt
- Wonderful challenging routes
- Introductory evening on GPS, route planning and mountaineering equipment.
- Three days of practice in the snow
- Maximum 4 people per Mountain Guide
Introduction to the course and materials (attendance not required)
Ski touring trip
Topics covered during the trip: ARTVA testing and companion rescue procedure - avalanche overview
Ski touring trip
with practical exercises with ascent and descent techniques inside.
Topics covered during the trip: planning and execution of a ski mountaineering trip, orientation, knowledge of materials, emergency strategy
Ski touring trip
Topics covered during the outing: recognizing avalanche factors, interpreting the avalanche report, choosing the line of ascent, reading the map, estimating the slope
Mandatory personal equipment: skis, skins, ski mountaineering boots.
Technical equipment for self-rescue (arva, shovel, probe)
For those without, Cortina360 can provide it for the days of the course.
